Painter, image maker, story-teller. &#38;nbsp;Mixing traditional painting media with stationary, pushing biro pen into canvas. Exploring the narrative potential of visual media and stretching the limits of an artist autobiography. This is not a memoir, but everything is personal. Memory is honest but not converned with factuality.&#38;nbsp;
Suspended between homecoming and escaping, perpetually on a cigarette and confronting the viewer’s eye alongside a recurring cast of doppelgangers, felines and sentient conifers. Through re-remembering half-forgotten life in a peripheral town, somewhere between the Uncanny and Mundane and communing with the real and imaginary, the folkloric and the stuff of post-modern legend. Just girl stuff. A little bit Twin Peaks but in the post-communist way. &#38;nbsp;It doesn’t have to make sense.

Has a thing or two to say about femininity and the pursuits of perfection, post-communism, hauntology, ghosts, nostalgia, all that liminal space stuff, the migrant experience. And it’s about cats.


Polka, która mieszka i pracuje w Londynie. &#38;nbsp;Wychowana na peryferiach Polski Po-niemieckiej, na szynce na plasterki i dymie z papierosów Caro. Wielbicielka Fiata 125 p. Rysuje i maluje na płótnie i na papierze, o sobie i o wszystkich dookoła.
Jestem skupiona na wizualnych próbach oddania nie-realiów dorastania w babińcu, pomiędzy Topieniem Marzanny a Dniem Grzybiarza wciąż powtarzając tajemnicze nocne rytuały w stałym emploi sobowtórów, kotów palaczy i groźnych choinek.Słowa pachną wodą&#38;nbsp;kwiatową&#38;nbsp;a tytuły zmieniają&#38;nbsp;się&#38;nbsp;zależnie od pory roku.Piosnki na cześć wypoczętej Panny Matki, komitywy przyjaznych cioć, zdrowych szlugów i wygodnych szpilek.

Socrealizm post-kapitalistyczny. Koty to też ludzie. Nostalgia to pułapka. Migracja a sprawa kobieca.&#38;nbsp;

	Canvas.
Drawing on canvas. Or is it painting. Why does it matter, exactly?

I have always been attracted by the quality of markmaking a simple biro is capable of. I used it a lot in sketchbooks but it wasn’t until the Summer after the first year at Slade, when I abandoned most of my materials with the international student storage that I tried biro on canvas. It is definitely not made for that purpose, but I love to struggle.

	Green.

There is something about the Northern European sky that I recognise in a spiky, insistent and forceful lime green. The first frosty morning in the long Summer, when you wake up and feel winter already seeping in through the cracks in the floor. Pinching your nose. Lighting a cigarette with fingers that are just that little bit stiffer than they were just a couple of hours earlier. And a feeling that something between you and that other person has shifted and it in fact is not going to be the same ever again. Summer’s almost gone, but not quite yet.&#38;nbsp;

	Paper.

So. The Drawing Year. I think it may not have been the first time I worked extensively on paper, but certainly the first time I was explicitly told to prioritise it. And I must say that I found this to be a rewarding and exciting surface to work on. I love canvas, and I always will love its texture, but few things are as enjoyable as working on a smooth hot pressed sheet of paper.
